The Islamabad High Court has rejected the intra court appeal of former prime minister and PPP leader Yousuf Raza Gilani seeking annulment of the election of Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The high court on Friday pronounced the verdict reserved yesterday.
A two-judge bench of the Islamabad High Court consisting of Justice Amir Farooq and Justice Tariq Mehmood Jehangiri reserved the verdict on former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani’s appeal challenging the election of the Senate Chairman Sanjrani and seeking its annulment.
The court heard the case again on Thursday and reserved its judgement.
Before this, a single bench had heard Gilani’s appeal and rejected it after declaring it not maintainable.
The court had reserved its judgement on the intra court appeal of the former premier on Dec 22, 2021. But the IHC in order to deliberate further on some points heard the case again and yesterday reserved its verdict on the appeal.
Gilani who also contested for the election of Senate chairman was defeated by Sanjrani when the presiding officer rejected 7 votes polled in favour of the former prime minister.
After the IHC verdict, Sanjrani will continue to remain as chairman Senate.
