Nine officials of the CIA Specialized Crime Unit have been on the run after extorting $90,000 from a software house owner in Karachi, while the victim is reportedly uninterested in registering a case.
According to 24NewsHD TV channel, the officials – including an SHO – kidnapped the software house owner and extorted ninety thousand dollars through his account.
As all the personnel involved in the crime went into hiding, CIA DIG Muqadas Haidar said they had been suspended.
A call centre owner involved in the crime has been ‘arrested’, the DIG said, adding that the victim is ‘avoiding registration of the case’.
Muqadas Haider said the departmental action has been initiated.
“We have been urging the affected person to file a case for three days but to no avail,” the officer stressed, adding that without case registration, the lawmen can't act.
DSP Shabbir Awan was suspended for being a supervisory officer, he said, adding that no evidence of involvement has mounted.
