The Punjab government on Tuesday rejected the request made by the PML-N to extend the parole granted to the party president and his son – Shehbaz Sharif and Hamza Shehbaz, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Earlier in the day, the PML-N had submitted an application with the Home Department in this regard.
On November 27, the imprisoned PML-N leaders were released from Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat jail on parole for five days to enable them to attend the funeral of late Begum Shamim Akhtar – the mother of Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz. However, the PML-N had requested for 14-day parole.
In this connection, the Home Department had issued a notification which mentioned that they would be released on November 27 for a five-day period till December 1 (Tuesday).
Begum Shamim Akhtar was laid to rest near her husband's grave at Jati Umra on Saturday last week after the funeral prayers attended by thousands of people were offered at Sharif Medical City in Raiwind outside Lahore.
She passed away in London on November 22, where she had arrived earlier this year to stay with his eldest son, Nawaz Sharif.
