Punjab govt announces Rs130b scholarships, 30k students to benefit from scheme annually

Punjab government has announced scholarship program worth 130 billion rupees for the students and in this respect, on the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the registration of scholarship has started, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Information desks will be established in universities, scholarships will be given to students of 68 disciplines/subjects under Honahar Scholarship. On the direction of Chief Minister Maryam, 30000 students will get scholarship every year.
Students of 50 public sector universities across Punjab will be able to get the scholarship. Scholarships will be provided for 4 to 5 years under the undergraduate degree program. 30% of matric and 70% of intermediate marks will be used to determine the eligibility of the students.
Full tuition fees of students will be paid by Punjab government under Honahar Scholarship. The students of Punjab who are below 22 years of age and have an income of less than 3 lakh will be able to apply for the scholarship. MBBS and BDS students will also be able to apply for the scholarship.
On the occasion, Punjab CM said that “every student of Punjab is my son and every female student is my daughter”. Maryam Nawaz said scholarships will be given to the students for higher education purely on the basis of merit. She said the purpose of the meritorious scholarship is to provide opportunities for higher education to students with good grades with limited resources. The deserving students can apply for the scholarship till 18 October at honhaarscholarship.punjabhec.gov.pk.
