The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and franchises have initiated consultations in a bid to finalize venues for the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 9.
However, due to the government's delay in granting security clearance owing to impending elections, the PSL 9 season is set to shift its base to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Sources reveal that considerations are underway to commence the tournament in Lahore and conclude in Karachi. Nevertheless, weather concerns have prompted some franchises to propose initiating the league from Karachi.
The decision on the four potential venues – Lahore, Karachi, Multan, and Rawalpindi – is expected to be finalized by the PSL governing council in the next two to three days.
Peshawar's venue readiness remains uncertain, with challenges cited for holding matches at the Arbab Niaz Stadium, the sources said adding that in response, PCB has penned a letter to the government, outlining the security arrangements and potential venues for PSL.
In the event security clearance is not obtained, PCB has a Plan B in place, proposing the relocation of PSL matches to the UAE. The final decision hinges on the forthcoming security clearance verdict and the subsequent deliberations of the PSL governing council.
