Gujrat Passport office staff accused of overcharging fees from 9,000 citizens

The Assistant Director of the Gujrat passport office has been accused of collecting excessive fees from more than 9,000 citizens, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
According to sources, a citizen filed a complaint to the federal interior ministry and federal ombudsman asking the authorities to launch an investigation against the assistant director for overcharging.
According to the complaint, Assistant Director Umar Hayat has been charging amounts above the officially prescribed fees.
Umar Hayat has amassed 25 million rupees through these illicit charges, it added.
This staggering figure has raised serious concerns about the integrity of the passport office's operations.
Reacting to the scandal, the federal government immediately replaced the entire staff at the regional passport office in Gujrat.
This measure aims to ensure a thorough and unbiased investigation into the claims of corruption.
