Erik ten Hag has reportedly indicated to Man Utd’s hierarchy that he ‘wants two major signings’ this summer and six players are on their shortlist.

The Red Devils spent over £200m on new players during the summer transfer window last year. Casemiro, Antony, Lisandro Martinez, Tyrell Malacia and Christian Eriksen were their most notable additions.

They then exploited the loan market in January to recruit Wout Weghorst and Marcel Sabitzer on temporary deals until the summer.

These additions have helped Man Utd make great strides this season. They ended their trophy drought last week as they beat Newcastle 2-0 in the final of the Carabao Cup.

They are also third in the Premier League and in contention to go far in the Europa League and FA Cup.

Man Utd arguably need to improve their squad further if they are going to sustain a serious challenge for the Premier League title next season.

Ten Hag is clearly unwilling to stand still as Manchester Evening News are reporting that he ‘wants two major signings in the summer’.

The club’s hierarchy have ‘prioritised a new goalscorer’, while Ten Hag ‘is also pushing for a midfield reinforcement’. It is noted that a new centre-back ‘could be recruited’ if Harry Maguire leaves.

Ten Hag is ‘open to a second pursuit’ of Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong, who opted against joining Man Utd last year. This is while the signing of Liverpool target Jude Bellingham ‘would be endorsed’ by the head coach.

As for United’s striker targets, they have ‘interest’ in Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, who is also being linked with Chelsea.

Harry Kane, Goncalo Ramos and Mohammed Kudus are mentioned in the report as alternative striker targets.

It is understood that ‘player sales are necessary’ to fund their own business. Maguire, Anthony Martial and Alex Telles are among the players they ‘plan to sell’.

After winning the Carabao Cup, Ten Hag penned an open letter to United’s supporters. He insisted that he is ‘proud’ of his players for their performance in the final.

‘When I arrived at the club, we spoke about the challenge and importance of reuniting this group of players with our amazing fans,’ Ten Hag wrote.

‘Believe me, this squad knows exactly how important you are. The bond between the supporters and the team is there for everyone to see and what we experienced together yesterday will only further strengthen that bond.

‘The atmosphere generated by those of you at Wembley was incredible. From the first minute until the last you were there with us, driving the team on, supporting and encouraging them to get over the line to bring the trophy back to Manchester.

‘For those of you who couldn’t be there, we felt your support before, during and after the game. Know that each and every one of you will always play your part in this team being successful.

‘I am proud of my players and staff for their preparation and performances. Yesterday, we saw the required desire, spirit and determination that we must demand of everyone who represents Manchester United.’
