20 districts of Pakistan declared polio positive

National Institute of Health's Regional Anti-Polio Laboratory confirmed polio presence in environmental samples of 20 districts of Pakistan, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.
As per details, the polio has been found in the sewage of Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar and DI Khan, Attock, Mianwali, Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Qamber, Pishin, Lucky Marwat, and Mirpurkhas.
Moreover, the Polio virus is present in the sewage of Karachi Central, Karachi South, Karachi East, and Karachi Korangi.
The sewage of Quetta, Nushki, and Zhob also tested polio-positive.
Sewage samples from 26 locations in 20 districts were sent to the National Institute of Health.
A total of 74 districts of Pakistan are affected by poliovirus.
Wild poliovirus type WPV1 was confirmed in environmental samples while 20 polio-affected districts were classified as infected with WPV1 virus.
According to experts, Polio-affected districts are a threat to the health of children up to five years in the entire country.
The anti-polio campaign has been going on since October 28, four and a half million children will be vaccinated.
Polio officials appealed to parents to give their children two drops of the polio vaccine during the campaign.
