Islamabad is set to address years of traffic congestion with two major projects, Serena Chowk Interchange and F-8 Exchange Chowk Interchange, following directives from Federal Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the foundation stones for both projects will be laid on November 5.
Serena Chowk Interchange is expected to be completed within three months instead of the usual ten, and the F-8 Exchange Chowk Interchange will be finished in four months rather than twelve.
The Serena project will include two underpasses and connecting roads, while the F-8 project will feature a flyover, an underpass, and additional connecting roads.
During a Friday meeting at the Capital Development Authority (CDA), the interior minister tasked the CDA with ensuring the projects were completed within the set deadlines and approved an alternate traffic plan to be implemented during construction.
Mohsin Naqvi emphasised the need for around-the-clock work to complete the projects on time and issued instructions for a comprehensive traffic flow plan for Faizabad Interchange.
The minister also announced the formation of a special unit to oversee the projects, with personnel assigned to maintain traffic flow around the construction sites.
In addition, the relocation of various service lines at the interchange sites will be expedited to avoid delays. Senior officials, including the Federal Secretary for Interior, CDA Chairman, Islamabad Police Inspector General, Deputy Commissioner, and Chief Traffic Officer, participated in the meeting and reviewed the projects' layouts.
