Rise in chikungunya cases in Islamabad sparks health alert

The number of chikungunya cases is rising in Islamabad, with another recent case reported, according to sources at the National Institute of Health (NIH).

A 22-year-old woman from Sector G-8/1 and a 35-year-old woman from Terlai were both diagnosed with the viral infection and are currently receiving treatment at Islamabad's Central Government Hospital and Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), NIH sources confirmed.

The National Health Organization issued an advisory on September 18, urging relevant health institutions to take timely and effective action against the spread of chikungunya.

The virus is transmitted through the bite of Aedes mosquitoes and is known to cause symptoms similar to dengue, primarily affecting tropical regions.
