Pak Tea House hosts session on The Dark Comedy

The English Literary Society, Lahore, Pakistan in association with The Progressive Writers' Association, Pakistan will organise a session on "The Black Humour" also known as "The Dark Comedy" or the "Black Comedy" on August 31, 2024 at Pak Tea House at 6:00 pm.


Black Humour is a style of writing comedy about serious or prohibited matters or attitudes. It also reflects absurdity, senselessness and irrationality.


Many popular creative writers have expressed in this style of comedy like Jonathan Swift, Joseph Heller, Kurt Vonnegut, John Barth, Philip Roth, John Irving, Martin Amis and others.


Much of their writings are part of Postmodernism literature. This comedy started in 1960s in America. The impact of World War II is also its theme. Its founder is Andre Breton who also founded "Surrealism" the literary movement about process of thought.


The Dark Comedy is not a new style of writing comedy. It can be also traced in Century 18 in the novel "Gulliver's Travels" by Jonathan Swift.


The attendees will express their views on the occasion.
