Govt withdraws Neelum Jhelum Surcharge on electricity bills

Amount collected during last two years will be refunded to consumers

What could be described as a relief of billions of rupees provided to the consumers, the federal government on Friday issued a notification, withdrawing Neelum Jhelum Surcharge levied on electricity consumers through bills, reported 24NewsHD TV channel. 

Not only that, the government has also decided to refund the amount collected under the surcharge during the past two years to the consumers.   

The Neelum Jhelum Surcharge was being received monthly at the rate of 10 paisas per unit. 

The government also ordered a special audit of the amount received from consumers since December 2018. 

In this connection, the power ministry has written a letter to the heads of all companies conveying today’s decisions.
