Heavy contingents of police and Pakistan Rangers have taken positions outside the building of Ministry of Interior in Islamabad in view of possible appearance of former ISI chief Lt General (r) Faiz Hameed before the Faizabad sit-in probe commission today to record his statement, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
Sources have told 24News TV channel that the security has also been tightened at the ministry’s gate as only persons connected to the case will be allowed inside the building.
The commission on December 29, 2023 had again summoned former ISI chief when he failed to appear before it despite having been issued a summons.
On Monday, the commission had also summoned former prime minister and PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif. The 24News TV channel, quoting its sources, reported that the commission had asked Shehbaz to appear before it on Wednesday (January 3, 2024) and record his statement.
The commission is due to submit its detailed report to the Supreme Court (SC) on January 22.
The commission earlier, besides others, had also summoned ex-DG ISI Lt General (r) Faiz Hameed, but he did not show up, prompting it to issue summons for him again.
During the tumultuous period of the Faizabad sit-in, Shehbaz held the position of Chief Minister of Punjab.
The caretaker government had formed the inquiry commission in November 2023 to fix responsibility and implement the court’s decision in the case.
On November 08, 2017, Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) had organised a sit-in at Faizabad interchange in Rawalpindi against the amendments made to the Election Bill 2017, in which the word ‘oath’ was replaced with the word ‘declaration’.
