FBR slaps heavy duties on imported items including mobiles, cars, soap, makeup

On the first day of the implementation of the annual budget 2024-25 on Monday, July 1, the Federal Board of Revenu (FBR) imposes heavy regulatory duties on dozens of imported items including mobile phones, cars, soap, makeup, dental pastes, hair colours, pencils, and sports equipment.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the FBR imposes a 50% duty on soap and its materials, dental paste and dental powder.
Pencils, perfumes, and toothbrushes are subject to a 20% duty while makeup items, beauty and skincare preparations now have a 55% regulatory duty.
Hair paste, perfume, and toilet water are also subject to a 55% duty while sports and gym equipment face a 30% regulatory duty.
New, old, and used sports cars including 1300cc sports cars are subject to a 15% duty.
Mobile phone SIM cards now have a 15% regulatory duty while imported mobile phones are subject to varying duties based on their value as follows:
Phones valued at $30: Rs300
Phones valued between $30 and $100: Rs3,000
Phones valued under $200: Rs7,500
Phones valued under $350: Rs11,000
Phones valued under $500: Rs15,000, and
Phones valued above $500: Rs22,000.
20 per cent duty on imported LED bulbs and 10 per cent duty on imported clothing for children, men, and women has been fixed.
Imported leather, rubber, plastic, and textile shoes now face a 50% duty while imported furniture products have a 45% regulatory duty.
Imported suitcases, briefcases, and travel bags face a 20% regulatory duty while pet food for dogs and cats is subject to a 50% duty.
Non-medicinal chloroform has a 20% duty and watches are subject to a 30% duty.
Mineral water imports face a 60% duty while fruit juices are also subject to a 60% duty.
