The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Monday filed a new reference against former president Asif Ali Zardari, former premiers –Nawaz Sharif and Yousuf Raza Gilani – and two other persons.
The reference has been filed at the Rawalpindi Accountability Court which charged that both Zardari and Nawaz received luxury vehicles from Toshakhana illegally.
The reference alleged that Asif Zardari paid only 15 percent of the total price of the vehicles, which he got through Anwar Majeed and Abdul Ghani Majeed using fake accounts.
It also stated that the former president kept using some luxury vehicles gifted by the UAE and Libya which he should have returned to Toshakhana.
About Nawaz Sharif, the reference alleged that he was granted a luxury vehicle from Thoshakhana without any application in 2008 when he did not have any public office.
“Nawaz Sharif willfully obtained illegal benefits from Yousuf Raza Gilani, the then prime minister,” it maintained.
The reference said that all of the accused used their influence to obtain personal benefits.
The Executive Board members of NAB, headed by Chairman Justice (r) Javed Iqbal, had approved filing of references against former premiers – Nawaz Sharif and Yousuf Raza Gilani, and ex-president Asif Ali Zardari on these charges in January 2020.
