Federal Minister for Defence Khawaja Asif Tuesday demanded a parliamentary trial of the controversial and impugned decisions of the judiciary.
According to the 24News HD TV channel, the defence minister addressed the National Assembly's Tuesday session and said the Supreme Court has no constitutional right to give directions to the elected members of the parliament.
He suggested the Parliament and the parliamentarians protect their Prime Minister and that the practice of beheading the Prime Ministers should also be ended now.
Kh Asif asked the Speaker that he should also ask the Supreme Court for the minutes of the proceedings.
The minister said the people of Pakistan voted for the parliamentarians in millions to make decisions and it is not the function of the Supreme Court to give directions to them.
Defence Minister Kh Asif said it is not written anywhere in the constitution that the Supreme Court should establish panchayats. He added that
the Parliament will protect the Constitution and nothing will happen beyond the Constitution.
Giving some references from judicial history, Kh Asif said someone will give an account as the parliament was killed and General Musharraf was given the right to amend the constitution in the past. So what will the Supreme Court do to clear its past? he added.
The minister also said they (parliamentarians) have already given a lot of accounts but now they should also be given an account as their salary is just Rs1,68,000 per month, how much is theirs?
