Zardari directs Sindh govt to complete Karachi Safe City Project on war footings

President Asif Zardari Wednesday directed the Sindh government to complete the Karachi Safe City Project on war footings besides placing of safety fence on Norther bypass entry points, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
President Zardari said this while chairing a high-level meeting in Karachi to review the law and order situation in the province and operations against criminals in Karachi and dacoits in kacha areas of Sindh. Sindh Chief Minister Murad Shah brief the President about the overall situation in the province.
Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi, DG Rangers Major General Azhar Waqas, Federal Science and Technology Minister Maqbool Siddiqui, Senior Provincial Minister Sharjil Inam Memon, Sindh Interior Minister Zialul Hassan, IGP Sindh, Director FIA and others attended the meeting. During the meeting, President Asif Zardari directed DG Rangers and Inspector General of Police Sindh to control the criminals and dacoits in the province, adding that law enforcement agencies will be provided all possible funds in this regard.
On the occasion, CM Murad Ali Shah briefed the President about overall the law and order situation.
Murad Shah told President Zardari that significant improvement was seen in the overall crime control situation after security agencies took strict actions against street criminals in Karachi and dacoit gangs in the Kacha area of Interior Sindh.
The CM further said that the concerned officers and officials brief CM House weekly basis about the latest developments in the operations against criminals.
President Zardari was told that during the first four months of 2024, around 5357 criminal cases were reported while during the same period, 5259 cases were reported in 2023.
While during March and April, a decline was seen in street crime cases. While in 48 reported street crime cases, 49 people lost their lives. While 27 cases were probed and 43 criminals were arrested while 13 accused were killed in police encounters.
Sindh CM told Zardari that in 2014, Karachi was ranked no 6 in the global crime index while in 2024 Karachi ranked 82 in the world crime index. Moreover, Murad Shah further said that to control street crime, Shaheen Forces was mobilized again with 386 motorbikes.
On the occasion, the President directed the Interior Minster to take steps to improve border coordination between Sindh, Punjab and Balochistan, adding that this step would discourage the free movement of criminals to other provinces during operations in Interior Sindh.
Zardari directed the government to involve senior and key figures of the kacha area to settle tribal feuds in Interior Sindh.
The president also directed strict action against the drug mafia. He ordered the Sindh government to create awareness about the drug menace and share details with the parents of the students.
President also directed the government to speed up the construction of the Kandhkot Bridge in Ghoktki and start development work in Interior Sindh.
