Pakistan observes mourning day as leaders pay tribute to Geelani

President Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Imran Khan expressed deep grief and sorrow over the death of Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Geelani and announced that the Pakistan flag would fly at half-mast today (Thursday) that would also be observed a day of official mourning.
The PM in his tweets said Ali Geelani struggled all his life for his people and their right to self-determination. Imran Khan said Ali Geelani suffered incarceration and torture by the Occupying Indian state but remained resolute.
The PM in another tweet saluted Ali Geelani from Pakistani nation and said he would be remembered in his own words “Hum Pakistani Hain aur Pakistan Hamara hai”.

Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa also expressed deepest grief on the sad demise of Syed Ali Shah Geelani, icon of #Kashmir Freedom Movement.
“His lifelong sacrifices & ceaseless struggle symbolises indomitable resolve of Kashmiris against Indian occupation. His dream & his mission will live on until People of IIOJ&K win their right of self determination,” said a tweet published by DG ISPR on COAS behalf.

President AJK and PM Azad Kashmir
President Azad Kashmir Sultan Mehmood and Prime Minister Sardar Abdul Qayuum Niazi expressed deep sorrow over the death of Hurriyat leader Ali Geelani and announced one day holiday and three days of mourning in the state. He also announced that funeral prayer of Kashmiri leader would be offered at all district headquarters in Azad Kashmir.
Raja Farooq Haider and Sardar Attique
Former premier AJK Farooq Haider Khan and Muslim Conference head Sardar Attique Ahmed Khan also condoled on the death and said Kashmiris lost another worthy leader.
Abdul Hameed Lone
Hurriyat leader Abdul Hameed Lone said that Syed Ali Gilani has rendered invaluable services to the Kashmir independence movement. He spent his entire life in the independence movement. He said Syed Ali Geelani was under house arrest for thirteen years.
Mashaal Hussein Mullick
Hurriyat leader Mashaal Malik said that Kashmiris had become orphans today after the death of Syed Ali Geelani. She said in different tweets that Indian government had threatened Geelani’s family to bury his dead body within next half an hour otherwise, they would bury his dead body in an unnamed grave away from Srinagar.

Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Mian Shehbaz Sharif expressed grief over the death of Ali Geelani and said the late was a powerful voice of the Kashmir independence movement. He said Ali Geelani expressed the sentiments and sacrifices of Kashmiris globally.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari
Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari expressed condolence on Geelani’s death and said he was another name for the independent movement in Kashmir. He said Geelani’s life was a metaphor for the constant struggle for the freedom of Kashmir.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman
Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) chief and former chairman Kashmir Committee Maulana Fazlur Rehman expressed grief over the death of the Kashmiri leader and said a chapter of the struggle for independence of Kashmir was closed.

Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan (JIP) Siraj-ul-Haq said in his condolence message that Syed Ali Geelani was a great mujahid of this soil who spent his whole life in love with Pakistan. He said with his departure, this region had lost a great leader.
