Pronouncing the reserved verdict, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday accepted the petitions filed by the PML-N MNAs for changing the tribunal set up to adjudicate on the election-related complaints of the National Assembly (NA) candidates from Islamabad, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The PML-N MNAs, in their pleas, had objected to the inclusion of Islamabad High Court (IHC) judge Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri in the bench, saying he had a bias against them.

Earlier too, the ECP had ruled in favour of the PML-N petitioners and set up a tribunal, which was headed by Justice (r) Abdul Shakoor Paracha rather than Justice Jahangiri.

Later, the IHC sent the case back to the election commission while deciding the fate of the pleas filed by the PTI candidates.

Three PML-N MNAs from Islamabad Anjum Aqeel Khan, Raja Khurram Nawaz and Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry had filed petitions in the ECP requesting it to change the election tribunal formed to hear their February 8 election-related complaints.

Aqeel and Raja Khurram had filed petitions under Section 151 of the Elections Act, 2017, while Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry under Section 142 of the same Act.
