In a significant development, the government has granted the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) the authorization to sell broadcasting and media rights for the Pakistan Super League (PSL), reported the 24NewsHD TV channel.
According to sources, the government had previously restrained the PCB from making financial decisions without explicit permission, but with the recent approval, the PCB has commenced the process of selling broadcasting rights for the highly anticipated PSL.
Though bids will be submitted to the PCB, the winner will have to be approved by IPC, the federal ministry for inter-provincial coordination.
Earlier, the bidding for the broadcast and media rights for the PSL was delayed by two weeks to the beginning of January.
Reports suggested that the technical bids for PSL broadcasting rights have been finalized, marking a crucial step towards the financial bidding process.
The decision on the financial bid is expected to be announced next Tuesday, adding an extra layer of excitement to the upcoming edition of the PSL.
The sources indicated that the digital rights for PSL will also be up for grabs later this week.
This move is anticipated to boost the commercial aspect of the PSL, attracting potential sponsors and elevating the league's viewership across various platforms.
