A seven-day anti-polio drive will start in Balochistan’s 14 districts from Monday (tomorrow). Over 1.8 million children up to five years of age would be administered the drops, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Emergency Operation Center Balochistan’s Coordinator Syed Zahid Shah said that more than seven thousand teams will take part in the campaign.
Due to the current heatwave spell, the anti-polio drive in Nasirabad, Sibi, Jaffar Abad, Ustha Muhammad, Dera Bugti and Sohbatpur will start on 8 June.
Zahid Shah admitted that 3 cases of poliovirus have been reported in Balochistan this year from Qila Abdullah, Chaman and Dera Bugti areas. He said an anti-polio campaign was being started due to the presence of the poliovirus in the environment. So far four polio cases have been reported in 2024.
