An alarming rise in number of polio cases was witnessed in Pakistan as year’s 46th case of poliovirus was reported from Qila Saifullah in Balochistan, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Tuesday.


Regional Reference Laboratory which is functioning under the supervision of National Institute of Health also confirmed detection of 46th case of polio.


National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC) said that latest polio virus case was detected in a child who is a resident of Qila Saifullah Balochistan.


NEOC statistics showed that overall 46 polio cases were registered in Pakistan and the latest one is the second case which is reported from Qila Saifullah.


According to NEOC, Balochistan reported highest number of polio cases during current year of 2024.


Balochistan registered 23 polio cases, Sindh 12 and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) 9 while 1 each polio case was reported from Rawalpindi and Islamabad.


National Institute of Health (NIH) said that polio virus was found in samples collected from 76 districts of the country during the current year.
