Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) lawyers welcomed the election date announcement, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Friday.
Addressing a press conference, Shoaib Shaheen and Barrister Gohar heaped praise on the Supreme Court.
They lashed out at the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for what they called defying its duty.
Those who did not abide by the law should be taken to task, they stressed, adding that the top court should take notice so that such an act could be averted.
They emphasised that the ECP should now conduct free and fair elections.
The PTI lawyers said the party has not received the copy of the election symbol decision made by the ECP.
Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court declared February 8, 2024, as the date for holding general elections in the country after getting the nod from the Election Commission and President.
The document signed by President Dr Arif Alvi regarding the general elections was presented in the Supreme Court, and the response was submitted with the signatures of the grade 22 officer of the President's House.
In the document, the President conveyed his consent to give the date of elections on February 8.
The Election Commission submitted the election notification to the Supreme Court vowing to hold the polls on February 8, while the Attorney General submitted a copy of the election notification to the Supreme Court.
A three-judge bench led by Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Qazi Faez Isa, and comprising Justice Aminuddin Khan and Justice Athar Minallah heard a set of petitions seeking polls in 90 days.
