Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has renewed his pledge to bring prosperity to Pakistan, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported.
Addressing an election rally in Gujranwala on Saturday, he said there was no inflation in his rule. “Everything was at a low price in my regime,” said Nawaz.
“Vegetables were available at Rs10 per kg in my tenure,” he recalled.
“I will not sit until Pakistan stands on its own feet. I will bring down the price of electricity tariff. I will put an end to unemployment.
“The PTI government crushed our projects. They were staging sit-ins, we were working.”
He stressed had his government not been toppled, no one would have been unemployed and people would have been able to make both ends meet.
He promised he would build motorways, universities and hospitals across Pakistan.
Speaking on the occasion, PML-N president Shehbaz Sharif too recalled his brother’s tenure as third-time prime minister, saying that there was a significant decline in corruption in Pakistan when Nawaz Sharif assumed the role of prime minister in 2013.
Shehbaz referenced statistics from the Transparency International Corruption Index, stating, “Nawaz improved Pakistan’s rankings from 141 to 117.”
He came down hard on the PTI founder and its rule, saying the last government came in and foul-mouthed its rivals.
He questioned if Imran Khan built any house in his four years in power. He stressed when Nawaz was in power, infrastructure projects including roads and dams were launched across the country and the youth were provided with laptops.
He urged the people to vote for his party so that the journey of development can resume.
Addressing the rally, PML-N chief organizer Maryam Nawaz took a jibe at the Pakistan Tehreek Insaf and its founder Imran Khan describing the latter as a ‘viral disease’
“The viral disease that harmed Pakistan has been rid of. Gujranwala took the lead to get rid of the viral disease.”
She said: “We will end the politics of revenge and start the journey of development.
“The PML-N is once again going to win all 20 seats of Gujranwala.
