Police shot dead an alleged dacoit riding a motorcycle on Azadi Bridge in Lahore while his companion fled the scene, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday. 

Police claimed that the dead motorcyclist was a dacoit who committed robbery with his companion in Pir Makki, Data Darbar and Food Street simultaneously.

However, the police could not present the criminal record of the slain motorcyclist so far.

According to police, the alleged dacoits by chance ran into law enforcers near Pir Makki. They allegedly opened fire on the law personnel from Azadi Bridge. The police retaliated and as a result of police firing, one dacoit was shot dead and his companion ran away. 

Police further said that the law enforcers who came under the fire by alleged dacoits remained unhurt miraculously. 

At the time of dacoits’ firing, there was traffic on the bridge and guards were also on duty, but amazingly no one got hurt, police added.
