Fijian international Leone Nakarawa on Tuesday lost on appeal his bid for one million euros ($1.08m) compensation for breach of contract after his sacking by French rugby club Racing 92.
Fired at the end of 2019 for returning two weeks late from his post-World Cup vacation in Japan, Nakarawa took legal action, losing first at an industrial tribunal and now at the Paris Supreme Court.
"At Racing the only star is the team and the individualistic attitude of Mr Leone Nakarawa is inconceivable," the Top 14 club said after his dismissal.
"It denotes a total lack of team spirit and characterised insubordination."
The 36-year-old second-row forward now plays for Top 14 rivals Castres after a spell at Toulon. He previously played for Glasgow.
He won gold in the Olympic rugby sevens tournament at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
