Mohsin Naqvi says modern graveyards to be erected throughout Punjab

Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi has said the establishment of modern cemeteries is the need of the hour with the increasing population of the country, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel.
Talking to the media during his visit to Shehr-e-Khamoshan city built in Sunder Road Raiwind, Lahore on Sunday, he said modern facilities have been provided in the city in an organized manner for offering a respectable burial to the deceased.
“On the pattern of Sunder Road Raiwind cemetery, model graveyards will be erected throughout Punjab to offer respectable burials to the deceased, he added.
Earlier, the CM reviewed the facilities provided for funerals in Khomoshan city. He visited different sectors of the city including the graveyard area, ablution hall, waiting room, prayer hall, washrooms, and ambulance service.
Later, CM Naqvi was briefed by the secretary local government about the salient features of Shehr-e-Khamoshan city.
He was told that all the requirements regarding the modern cemetery in the city of Khamoshan have been fulfilled.
The secretary said that a model graveyard has been constructed on 127 kanals of land and it has the capacity of more than 12,000 graves. “The grave digging, uniformity of size of grave and headstone, and maintenance are key features of the city, he added.
The caretaker chief minister was further briefed that in the model graveyard, the burial fee has been reduced from Rs10,000 to Rs 3,500.
Citizens can call 1190 for ambulance service for the model cemetery, he added.
The secretary said that model graveyards are also being constructed in DG Khan, Faisalabad, Sheikhupura, Rahim Yar Khan, and Sahiwal.
Provincial Minister of Information and Local Government Amir Mir, Chief Secretary, Local Government Secretary and other officials were also present on the occasion.
