The largest gold smuggling interception in Pakistan's history as the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has thwarted an attempt to smuggle 16 kilograms of gold at Multan Airport, 24News HD TV Channel reported on Friday.

According to the report, the apprehended passenger, Muhammad Tanveer was travelling to Dubai via FlyDubai flight number FZ 340.

FIA Immigration discovered 10 bars of gold concealed within Tanveer's luggage when the accused passenger failed to provide satisfactory answers to immigration queries.

On this, the authorities inspected his belongings thoroughly and discovered gold bars of varying weights from secret compartments within Tanveer's bag.

Following the discovery, investigations have been initiated to ascertain any accomplices involved in the smuggling attempt and accused Tanveer was handed over to the FIA Composite Circle Multan for further legal proceedings. More arrests are expected in the light of the investigations.
