Following a string of setbacks, the Aurat March organizers have at last succeeded in getting an assurance from the Punjab government which has promised to provide security to the women march, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.
The assurance was given by the Caretaker Information Minister Aamir Mir, who stated that full police security will be provided to ensure the safety of the women attending the march.
The government would not obstruct the women's march, he said adding that everything would go according to the plan.
He furthered said that the caretaker government believes in individual liberties and expressed the hope that the women march will be held in a peaceful manner.
It merits mentioning here that the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rafia Haider had previously rejected permission to organize the Aurat March on 8 March due to security concerns and fearing clash with members of Jamaat-i-Islami’s ‘Haya March’ on the same day.
However, this ban was challenged in the Lahore High Court (LHC) by the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) Secretary Sabahat Rizvi.
