The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday granted bail to Hamza Shehbaz, PML-N leader and son of former Punjab chief minister Shehbaz Sharif, in Ramzan Sugar Mill case.
The PML-N leader, however, could not be set free as he was yet to get bail in money laundering case.
Two-judge LHC bench headed by Justice Mazahir Ali Akbar Naqvi ruled in favour of granting bail to Hamza Shehbaz after hearing arguments from both sides.
At one point during the proceedings, the judge remarked that it seemed the NAB prosecutor has not touched the case file as he has no answer to whatever the court has asked from him. “He (NAB prosecutor) should be given Pride of Performance award for his vague answers,” he added.
On another occasion, the NAB prosecutor said Ramzan Sugar Mill has seven directors and Hamza Shehbaz is its Chief Executive Officer (CEO), though the court asked him to name the seven directors of the sugar mill which he could not do so.
The NAB prosecutor also kept mum when the court asked why the Bureau withdrew the appeal against the bail of former Punjab chief minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The court will take up the assets-beyond-income case on February 11.
