Naqvi replaced former PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf and took charge of his office as the 37th PCB chairman.

Earlier, Election Commissioner Shah Khawar, who had become the cricket board in-charge following the resignation of Zaka Ashraf, and 10 members of the Board of Governors (BoG) gathered for the election of the new cricket board chief at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore at 2:00 in the afternoon.

Members of the Board who participated in the election included Tariq Sarwar, Tanveer Panezai, Sajjad Rathore, Zafarullah Judgal, Usama Azhar and representatives of Ghani Glass, SNGPL, and the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).
