Sharifs get green signal to contest elections

The way has been cleared for senior members of the Sharif family to contest elections slated to be held on February 8, as challenges to their nomination papers were set aside on Saturday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif, party president Shehbaz Sharif and senior vice-president Maryam Nawaz were given green signal for contesting elections.
The Election Tribunal in Lahore dismissed appeal filed against approval of Nawaz Sharif’s nomination papers.
The Election Appellate Tribunal upheld the returning officer’s decision to accept Nawaz Sharif’s nomination papers from NA-130 Lahore.
The Election Tribunal in Lahore also dismissed an appeal challenging the acceptance of the nomination papers of former prime minister and PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif from NA-132.
The tribunal upheld the decision of the returning officer regarding the acceptance of Shehbaz Sharif’s nomination papers from NA-132 and dismissed the appeal.
The tribunal comprising Justice Risaal Hasan Syed heard the appeal.
Meanwhile, the Election Appellate Tribunal also threw out an appeal against the approval of Maryam Nawaz’s nomination papers from PP-80 Sargodha.
The Election Tribunal consisting of Justice Asjad Javed Gharal heard the appeal of Mehar Tahir Attar. However, the tribunal upheld the returning officer’s decision.
