Two cases of new COVID variant JN1 detected in Karachi

Two passengers arriving in Karachi have tested positive for the new variant of the coronavirus, identified as JN1, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel.
According to Sindh Health Department, the first case involved a 53-year-old individual hailing from Hyderabad, who arrived in Karachi from Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) yesterday. The permanent residence of this patient is reported to be Sanghar District.
The Sindh Health Department added that a 60-year-old passenger arriving from Jeddah to Karachi had also exhibited suspicious symptoms of the JN1 variant. He is a resident of DG Khan.
Both patients underwent Rapid Diagnostic Testing (RDT), confirming positive results, as stated by the Sindh Health Department.
Following the positive diagnoses, both individuals have been directed to observe strict home quarantine measures.
In this regard, the department issued an alert advisory.
The health department further emphasized the importance of adherence to quarantine guidelines to mitigate the potential spread of the new variant.
A spokesperson of the Sindh Health Department said that the authorities remained vigilant in monitoring the situation, and he assured the public that the JN1 variant is not considered dangerous.
Symptoms associated with this new variant include cold, flu, cough, and headache.
The health authorities are closely coordinating with their counterparts in Punjab to stay abreast of the evolving COVID situation.
As the investigation and monitoring continue, efforts are underway to control and manage the spread of the JN1 variant in the region, the spokesperson concluded.
