The police incompetency and indifference towards their duty was laid bare by a group of unidentified gunmen who stormed a police station in Tandlianwala near Faisalabad early Monday and shot dead three brothers locked up in connection with a murder case, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The three brothers were killed and their cousin received serious bullet wounds when the daredevil assailants forced into Saddar Police Station and hit their target with so much ease.
Police sources said that all the assailants entered into the police station by using wooden ladders at the backside of the police station. A cop on guard challenged the attackers by opening fire on them but the return fire injured the policeman.
The slain were later identified as Bilal, Usman and Nasir who were real brothers and breathed their last on the spot after the attack while their cousin Asif was seriously injured.
All the accused later escaped from the crime scene from inside the police station.
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) sought detailed report from Regional Police Officer (RPO) Faisalabad after taking notice of the incident.
He also directed immediate arrest of the culprits involved in this heinous crime. Sources said that police arrested six suspicious persons.
Sources said that the deceased brothers were involved in murder of some members of the rival Kharal tribe.
Police had already locked them at the police station in Saddar area instead of City Police Station lock-up due to threats to their lives. Further investigation was underway.
High-profile inquiry committee
The Punjab IGP has constituted a high-profile inquiry committee to probe the murder of three brothers inside a Tandlianwala police station.
According to a Punjab police spokesman, the inquiry committee was formed after the IGP took notice of the incident.
The spokesman said DIG Intelligence Special Branch Faisal Ali Raja will head the inquiry panel. The other members are AIG Operations Punjab Zahid Nawaz Marwat and AIG Complaints Ahsanullah Chohan, the spokesman added.
The members of the inquiry committee did not waste any time and have immediately set out for Tandlianwala near Faisalabad.
The probe body will submit a report after investigating the murders inside the Saddar Police Station and determining the cops for security lapse.
It may be mentioned here that the latest murders were just an episode of long-running dispute between the rival groups which was started on the issue of a tubewell and which has so far claimed nine lives.
