PML-Q senior leader and Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has cautioned Prime Minister Imran Khan against his advisers, saying they are driving a wedge between the government and the media, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
In a statement released on Sunday, Pervaiz Elahi expressed his utter surprise as to why the PTI was targeting the media houses.
He said there were also reports that the PTI members were being barred from going to some particular channels. He observed that prime minister’s advisers were misguiding him thus creating an aloofness between the government and media.
In his statement, Mr Elahi said that freedom of expression was the beauty of democracy. By barring its members from going to media, the PTI would not be able to portray his point of view in a balanced way, he added.
The Punjab Assembly speaker also expressed his concern over the ban to release advertisements to some newspapers and media houses. He requested Prime Minister Imran Khan and party leadership to review their decision.
Mr Elahi said that government advertisements were in fact a public money which should not be used to target particular newspapers and channels.
The PML-Q leader said that he was assigned a task by the premier to sort issues relating to PECA Ordinance between the government and media houses.
