Legendary comedian laid to rest after Namaz-i-Janaza in Karachi

The Namaz-i-Janaza (funeral) of legendary comedian Umar Sharif has been offered in Karachi amid sobs and tears, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
A large number of people including politicians and fellow artists attended the funeral at Umar Sharif Park in Clifton. Umar Sharif was laid to rest in the cemetery near Abdullah Shah Ghazi's shrine.
Earlier, the dead body of Umar Sharif reached his home in Karachi from the Edhi morgue a little before Wednesday noon. His body arrived at Karachi airport from Germany on Wednesday morning and was handed over to his sons.
A Turkish Airlines plane carried Umar Sharif’s body to Istanbul and after a few hours another flight TK-708 flew the body to the Karachi International Airport where it was received at the cargo terminal.
Turkish Airlines flight TK-708 took off from Istanbul at 12:53 am. The scheduled flight landed at the Karachi Airport at around 5:33 am. Umar Sharif's body was flown to Munich from Nuremberg, Germany, before being flown to Istanbul aboard Turkish Air flight TK-1634.
Sindh Information Minister Saeed Ghani was also present at the cargo terminal. He said all arrangements for the comedy king’s funeral were finalized and he was in contact with his family.
Umar Sharif’s wife Zareen Ghazal Umar accompanied the body from Germany to Karachi where the body, wrapped in national flag, was handed over to his sons.
Pakistan’s consul general in Nuremberg Amjad Ali also travelled with the body to Pakistan.
From the airport, Umar Sharif’s body was shifted to Edhi Foundation’s morgue. Saeed Ghani said after keeping it in cold storage for few hours it will be transferred to their home.
Umar Sharif's sons - Jawad Umar and Fawad Umar - have said that their father's funeral prayers will be offered at 3 pm at Umar Sharif Park opposite Zia-ud-Din Hospital Clifton. Later, he will be buried in the cemetery adjacent to the shrine of Hazrat Abdullah Shah Ghazi.
Umar Sharif was admitted to a hospital in Germany’s Nuremberg on Wednesday after his health deteriorated during his flight to the United States. He was shifted to the hospital after his air ambulance made a scheduled landing in Germany.
The comedian was diagnosed with multiple ailments including coronary conditions.
Three days after his stay in Germany, he was expected to resume his travel to the US for medical treatment. However, a couple of hours into his dialysis, he suffered a heart attack that took his life.
Umar Sharif passed away at the age of 66. His doctor and husband of former Pakistani actress Reema Khan, Dr Tariq Shahab said the comedian was feeling fine during his dialysis. However, a subsequent heart attack proved fatal for him four hours after the dialysis at the Nuremberg South Hospital.
Umar Sharif was born on April 19, 1955, to an Urdu-speaking family in Liaquatabad, Karachi. The star was well-acclaimed as one of the biggest comedians in Asia.
