Police claimed to have nailed a woman mule from Attock District Jail, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Thursday.
The accused is identified as Mehnaz.
Reportedly her husband is imprisoned in the district jail in connection with a drug peddling case. She concealed the narcotics in foodstuff. Lawmen recovered 10g heroine, 15g charas and 5-g ice from her. A case has been registered in the police station concerned and an investigation is on.
The case surfaces a day after a report by the Provincial Intelligence Centre (PIC) found the involvement of some Attock district jail employees in raping, sexually harassing women visitors and backing caged drug mafia.
The allegation by a jail employee about the involvement of some staffers in the sexual harassment and rape of women visiting convicts was the most horrifying, the report said, suggesting an inquiry into the affairs of the district jail by a committee headed by an upright and honest officer.
It also recommended that the dignity and privacy of women visitors to the jail must be safeguarded and female staff should solely be responsible to handle them. Meeting between prisoners and their family members has become a lucrative business for jail staffers and a visitor reportedly has to pay from Rs500 to Rs2,000 jail staff to meet relatives.
