PDMA issues rain alert for Punjab till October 8

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) issued a rain alert for the province of Punjab, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.
The PDMA spokesman predicted more rains during the next twenty-four hours in different parts of Punjab. He said that the current rain spell will continue till October 8, 2024.
According to a spokesman of PDMA, Rawalpindi received 49 mm, Murree 25, Jhelum 35, Mandi Bahauddin 29, Gujranwala, and Sialkot 23, while Lahore, Sheikhupura, Hafizabad, Toba Tek Singh, Layyah, Sargodha, and Narowal also received moderate to light rain during the last twenty-four hours.
Director-General PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia said that after instructions from Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, all the relevant departments have already taken all necessary measures to tackle any emergency situation.
He said that water flow in all rivers and canals in Punjab is normal, and a control room of PDMA is monitoring the situation round the clock. He directed that rescue personnel equipped with machinery are on alert.
He said that measures are adopted for water drainage in low-lying areas of the province. He advised the general public to adopt precautionary measures against hanging electricity wires and mud houses.
He further advised the general public to call Help Line 1129 in case of any emergency.
