Pakistan Bar Council Tuesday announced to go on a nationwide strike on September 9 to register their protest against intimidating the lawyers and failure to uphold the constitution to hold the elections in 90 days, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The PBC representatives, while talking to 24NewsHD TV channel after the All Pakistan Lawyers conference held at the Supreme Court pointed out a constitutional crisis in the country.
PBC Vice Chairman Haroon-ur-Rashid said that the establishment is seemingly failing to conduct the general elections within 90 days of the dissolution of the assemblies.
PBC Executive Committee Chairman Hassan Raza Pasha said that they have now decided to take practical steps for the betterment of the situation in the country.
He said that the President of the State should play his constitutional role and should announce the poll date without consulting with anyone.
He said that the other agenda behind the strike is the sky-high inflation due to which the people and the nation as a whole is suffering. He put forth a demand that the privileges given to the judges, generals and government officials be abolished and their utility bills be paid from their own pockets and not the national treasure.
Pasha said the lawyers protection bill should be fully implemented with immediate effect and illegal raids at the lawyers residences should be stopped. They present their client's position in court using their legal rights. Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa should take action against the judges nominated in references.
