The Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) and the Supreme Court (SC) must act immediately to undo unconstitutional bench fixing, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto tweeted on Friday.

“With Justice Minallah’s note, we now have four justices on record. It is clear that CJ’s opinion is the minority judgement. The CJP and & SC must act immediately to undo this unconstitutional bench fixing. This is the only way the dignity of the Supreme Court can be resorted," reads the PPP chairman’s tweet.

If the CJP fails to protect his post’s prestige, he should let someone take the responsibly of the top judge, he added.

“The three-member bench decision is not worth the paper it is written on. If the CJP cannot get his court in order and remedy this mockery of justice then perhaps he should allow someone else to take the responsibility of CJP.”

The ruling coalition has raised the demand for the removal of CJP Umar Ata Bandial as his position has become controversial, especially after Justice Athar Minallah’s note in the case pertaining to elections in Punjab.

"When there was no petition, questions arise as to why the bench was formed and why a decision was made,” the federal information minister said while addressing a news conference in Islamabad.

She added the political parties were too in favour of constituting a full bench so the people could accept the decision. “Political parties do not shy away from elections, but this is no longer just an election issue. It has become a matter of 'bench fixing'," she added.

Taking to Twitter, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif too called for the removal of the top judge stressing that the courts take the nations out of crises and not push them into crises but the CJP imposed a minority judgment.

The National Assembly yesterday adopted a resolution rejecting the Supreme Court's verdict regarding holding Punjab elections on May 14.

The resolution noted that the National Assembly on March 28 in a resolution had called on the Supreme Court to avoid "interfering" in political matters. It also noted that multiple sections of the society had called on the apex court to form a full court
