Sargodha police arrested one of the most wanted human traffickers involved in the Greece boat accident from the Phularwan area on Sunday.
According to the 24News HD TV channel, Sargodha police conducted an information-based operation in Phularwan and arrested the accused Yasir.
The police also recovered a sophisticated weapon from the custody of the human trafficker and handed him over to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for further investigations.
The accused Yasir was involved in sending Pakistani people to Italy through Libya illegally. He extorted millions of rupees from the Greece boat victims.
In July 2023, an Italy-bound fishing trawler reportedly carrying at least 800 people — including approximately 350 Pakistanis — capsized off Greece. The incident led to a day of mourning along with the launch of a nationwide crackdown on human smugglers with many subsequently arrested.
