Amnesty International South Asia on Monday condemned the Pemra’s action of suspending 24News channel’s licence.
In a tweet, the Amnesty International South Asia termed the 24News closure an assault on the right to freedom of expression in Pakistan. The amnesty demanded that protesting journalists must be allowed to exercise their right to freedom of peaceful assembly.
It said: “Pakistan: Suspending @24NewsHD’s license is the latest assault on the right to freedom of expression in the country. Journalism is not a crime, and journalists protesting against the closure must be allowed to exercise their right to freedom of peaceful assembly.”
