A miscellaneous application has been filed in the Supreme Court (SC) for an early hearing of the case related to the recovery of missing persons, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.
The application has been filed by Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan.
It was requested in the application that the case should be fixed for hearing immediately without any delay.
The petitioner has serious concerns about the sudden increase in enforced disappearances in the country, the text of the application says.
Politicians, journalists, bureaucrats, political activists and dissidents are being disappeared.
Eminent people including journalists and politicians are released after some time while unknown people have been missing for decades.
The court had sought a written assurance from the federal government that no citizen would be made missing.
The court had also sought details from the Missing Persons Commission on the previous hearing, the petition said.
Despite the passage of more than six months, the case could not be scheduled for hearing.
The most serious and agonizing problem of Pakistan is the enforced disappearance of people.
Several cases of enforced disappearances have been reported after seeking written assurances from the government.
In recent days, Professor Zahoor Mashwani, Mazhar Mashwani and PTI Information Secretary Waqas Amjad have gone missing.
Many people including Shahbaz Gill’s brother Ghulam Shabbir have gone missing.
If the case is not fixed for hearing soon, more citizens are likely to go missing, the application said.
