The Islamabad High Court has given the last chance to former top judge of Gilgit-Baltistan Supreme Appellate Court Rana Shamim for submission of his affidavit till April 4, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah was hearing the contempt case against the ex-top GB justice on Monday. The CJ asked Mr Shamim that he had to tell the court that how his affidavit which accuses former chief justice of Pakistan Nisar Saqib of collusion in denying bail to the PML-N leaders was leaked.
Justice Minallah asked Mr Shamim whether he wanted the case to proceed or court would act against him on its own.
“If you keep doing like this with courts, it will not deem appropriate. You have levelled serious allegations and you have to defend yourself,” the CJ remarked.
At the outset of the hearing, when CJ Minallah asked Mr Shamim had he submitted his affidavit. He replied in negative and sought three weeks’ time. On which the CJ granted him time till April 4 with a stern warning saying that he was being given the last chance by the court and if he failed to do so, the court would act against him.
Mr Shamim told the court that he did not leak his affidavit. I don’t know how Ansar Abbasi got it, he added.
The CJ inquired whether he sent notice to the person who leaked his affidavit. Mr Shamim said if he knew who had leaked it, he would have served a notice on him.
The CJ then asked Mr Shamim had he sent a notice to the newspaper which published the story. He said he advised against it by his lawyer.
Justice Minallah didn’t buy Mr Shamim’s argument and directed him to submit his affidavit and tell the court how on earth it got leaked.
With this, the judge adjourned the hearing till April 4.
