US’s ambassador to Pakistan Donald Blome Monday called on Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Omar Ayub Khan and discussed with him the country’s political situation, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Asad Qaiser and Rauf Hassan were also present at the meeting, which was held in the opposition leader’s chamber.
During the meeting, the participants discussed a broad range of issues important to the bilateral relationship, including U.S. support for continued economic reforms, human rights, and regional security.
Highlighting the importance of long-term reforms for sustainable economic growth for a stable and secure future for the people of Pakistan, Ambassador Blome underscored the United States’ support for Pakistan to engage constructively with the IMF on its reform program.
The Ambassador highlighted the importance of the two countries’ shared interests and the many opportunities to advance our shared goals, including accelerating projects addressing climate change under the Green Alliance framework.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Ayub said that the delegation had a productive discussion with the US Ambassador on the importance of upholding the rule of law in Pakistan.
He emphasized that the rule of law is essential for the country’s progress and that the current environment is not conducive to economic development.
Ayub also welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision on reserved seats, which has thrown the election of the Prime Minister, Speaker, Deputy Speaker, and President into dispute.
Ayoub said that the women and minorities who were elected on reserved seats do not belong to the government.
The leader of the opposition added that there is chaos in the country and that businesses have come to a standstill.
He also highlighted the wheat import scandal, which has cost the country one billion dollars.
When asked by a reporter if the PTI delegation had discussed its concerns and the case against PTI founder Imran Khan with the US Ambassador, Ayub responded that the US Ambassador cannot secure the release of anyone in Pakistan.
He added that the PTI will not share its concerns with any foreign ambassador, as they are patriotic Pakistanis.
Ayub concluded by saying that the cases against Imran Khan and other PTI leaders are bogus.
