The SHO (Station House Officer) of now-famous Shahdara Police Station on Wednesday said the sedition case against the PML-N leadership was registered before him, as he had been posted there just two days ago.

According to 24NewsHD TV channel, he said the matter would be investigated on merit and the police registered the case on receiving an application.

He said this as Mohammad Zubair, Attaullah Tarar and some other leaders visited the police station to express their party’s reservations over the registration of the controversial FIR.

The sedition case was registered against a three-time prime minister, another former premier, sitting AJK prime minister and three retired army generals on the request of a private citizen, they said.

Zubair – who has recently been appointed as a spokesperson to PML-N Vice-president Maryam Nawaz – told media persons that he had served as the Sindh governor and the sedition case could not be registered without the government’s approval.

Prime Minister Imran Khan was keen to file cases against the opposition and the latest sedition FIR had been filed against two former prime ministers on his insistence, he remarked.

“No one is now ready to take responsibility for this case,” he remarked and added that Imran Khan had thought that they would go in hiding.

“Imran Khan is involved unconstitutional actions, not us. The PML-N workers will come out on streets no matter how many cases are registered,” Zubair said.

“It is the first case in which the accused have come [to the police station] themselves,” he remarked.

Speaking on the occasion, Chaudhry Riaz – who has been previously elected to the National Assembly from this area – said Badar Rashid, on whose application the case has been filed, was associated with the ruling PTI.

His brother is currently serving as a driver of Punjab Governor Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar’s wife, he revealed.
