Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Mian Nawaz Sharif and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman are set to meet today at the President's House in Islamabad to discuss key issues, including a proposed constitutional amendment and the country's political situation.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the meeting is seen as significant amid growing concerns over the amendment's impact.
Sources indicated that the leaders of the major political parties will also participate in an All Parties Conference (APC) on Gaza, taking place at the Presidency.
The constitutional amendment is expected to be a central topic during their discussion, as both leaders weigh its implications for the nation's political landscape.
JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has previously emphasised the importance of consensus when approving such amendments.
In a recent statement, he underscored his opposition to amendments tailored for specific individuals, recalling the collective disappointment over the support extended to former Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhary.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC), alongside 317 lawyers and six of its members, has expressed serious concerns over the government's proposed constitutional amendment.
In an open letter to the judges of the Supreme Court and High Courts, the PBC accused the government of attempting to undermine judicial independence by controlling the appointment of judges through this amendment.
The PBC has called for transparency, urging the judiciary to reject the government's move, which it claims has been kept secret even from parliament members.
The Pakistan Bar Council had already voiced its opposition on September 19, highlighting the lack of transparency surrounding the proposed amendments.
