Man dies in bid to save woman fallen into manhole

A lidless manhole claimed two lives, taking the lid off negligence on the part of Karachi Metropolitan (KMC).

The tragedy took place in Orangi Town where, according to rescue sources, a woman fell into a lidless manhole and a man dived into it to save her.

But, both inhaled poisonous gas and died, they said, adding that their bodies have been recovered and shifted to Abbasi Hospital for legal formalities. 

The deceased mother of three sons and a daughter was returning home from her office when she had the tragedy, one of her sons said. 

Lidless manholes have been claiming many lives but the authorities concerned have been showing sheer negligence and callousness.

The identity of the other deceased has not yet been ascertained. The deceased man was a fruit vendor.
