Dec 31 deadline for getting additional passports canceled

The holders of multiple passports got another chance to get additional passports canceled, 24NewsHD TV channel reported Monday.  

The Ministry of Interior brought in a three-category policy for the purpose, setting December 31, 2022, as the deadline. The fee for the three categories has been set at Rs10,000, Rs 25, 000, and Rs50,000 respectively. 

The persons can send their applications to Zonal Passport Offices or by post in Islamabad. Facilitation of sending applications to DG Immigration and Passport through Pakistani embassies abroad.

Earlier in the ongoing year, the information minister said the multiple passport holders would be forced to submit the additional ones to the government. “We will also create a framework to stop this practice in the future and procedural work is expected to complete till 31 December 2022,” the minister said.

The government has approved an amnesty scheme for Pakistani citizens holding more than one Pakistani passport.

Section 6 (1) (j) of the Passports Act states : “A person shall be punishable with imprisonment which may extend to three years, or with fine, or with both, if he: obtains more than one passport for himself either in the same or different names by concealing the fact of his already being in possession of a passport.”
