A man embraced martyrdom and a woman sustained injuries when Indian troops unleashed unprovoked firing on the civilian population in Chirikot Sector along the Line of Control (LoC), the ISPR said on Saturday.
“They (Indian troops) targeted civilian population with artillery and mortar fires. An innocent citizen, Mir Muhammad, embraced shahadat (martyrdom) while a woman got injured in Village Kakuta,” it said.
Pakistan army troops responded effectively, the ISPR said, adding that the injured were shifted to a nearby medical facility for necessary medical care.
Indian media, on the other hand, reported that one Indian soldier was killed and three others injured on Saturday as the firing by Pakistani army along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district.
It quoted officials as saying the causalities came at a forward post in Degwar Sector.
Earlier, an Indian defence spokesperson alleged that Pakistan initiated firing and shelling around 3:45 pm. There was no report of any civilian casualties, the official said.
